Democracy

Election Day in Australia.  July 2, 2016.

Sausage sizzles in the winter sun.

Cake stalls, raffle tickets.

Locals chit chat about the rains.

We whine about the inconvenience of it all.

Fancy buggering up our Saturday.

We complain about the quality of candidates.

We don’t follow instructions. We write abuse on the ballot. We laugh.

Don’t waste your votes.

Educate yourself. Learn. Read. Make choices. Not everyone gets a chance to vote.

Be grateful.

A vote is a privilege.

People died fighting for the right to vote.

No one shoots at us. There is no riots or fighting on the streets.

Sausages, cake stalls and winter sun.

How blessed we are.
