We can choose to ruminate on our problems, focus on the negative aspects of life or we can spend that same amount of energy counting blessings and focusing on what IS going right.
We sometimes forget this is a choice. We claim we “can’t” let the past go.
It’s not always easy, but we can control our thoughts.
We can control our focus.
It takes work.
We need to be aware of our thoughts. Aware of what we are thinking.
Are your thoughts productive, or are they holding you back?
Are your thoughts helping you achieve your goals or are they hurting you?
Our thoughts have an impact on our emotional well-being and our outcomes.
The energy you spend focused on negative happenings from the past, that are over, that can’t be changed, is energy you can’t spend on your future and the things you can change.
What we think about gets bigger. When all we can see and think of are negative past events, we can’t see a bright future. It’s all bleak.
Language is really important.
And yes, this is a choice. It’s not easy. And you will need support.
When we feel we have no choice; that we can’t do anything to change a situation, that it is out of our control, we feel helpless, hopeless.
Even in the most difficult of circumstances, we have choice. And we are all responsible for our own choices.
