The First Step

“Motivation is movement. By taking action, by setting out along the path, we start the process, we create our own motivation. Ironically, it is often the first step, this beginning, which is the most difficult.” ~ Anthony Grant.

It is hard to begin. Taking that first step is often the hardest part of any task.

I know I procrastinate, rearrange my schedule and talk myself out of starting.

Sometimes I convince myself that a particular task is going to be difficult.

And, usually, once I begin, I find it is not as hard as I had imagined it was going to be.

Motivation is the key. The action, in taking that first step.

Once we make a start, taken that first action, energy flows, we get excited and are rewarded by progress.

One strategy that sometimes helps is breaking it down into smaller chunks.

If something is particularly difficult, or you having trouble with motivation, commit to just 15 minutes. And that is a start. Get something underway.

The first step can intimidate us, overwhelm us and challenge our confidence.

Hold yourself accountable, take some action and make a start.
