Gossip

“Great minds discuss ideas; average minds discuss events; small minds discuss people.” ~ Eleanor Roosevelt.

What gives you the right to discuss someone else’s life?

Why do you think you are entitled to an opinion on how they choose to live?

Who makes these rules? Are you perfect? What is perfect?

Why do you sit and listen?

Why do you repeat these stories?

Does it make you feel better about yourself?

We’ve all been the target of gossip I’m sure.

Some stories are true, many are not.

Unfortunately many reputations are damaged and people are hurt because of rumours, gossip and thoughtless comments.

Focus on your life. If you are engaged in your life you will have little time to consider the lives of others.

I had a call recently from a friend who was upset about some stories a “friend” had told her she had heard. This “friend” who brought the story back, why did she not step up and stop the talk? Why did the gossips feel comfortable enough to tell this story in her presence? The gossips knew they would not be challenged. And sadly they were right.

Be brave enough to stop the gossip. Say “Excuse me?” Defend others in their absence.

Don’t discuss other’s lives. You know far less about them than you think.
