The other side of the Internet

How cool is the internet? I mean, really? These days we use it for everything.

Twenty years ago I could not have imagined communication the way it is now. Texts, MMS, video calls, emails, mobiles.

I love the internet now. But, for a long time I really hated it. I could not see it had a purpose for any good.

It allowed nothing but misery into my life.

When we first got dial up I could make a cup of tea while the home page loaded.

It was no use to me. It was simply too slow. Even emails was a challenge.

It introduced deception and temptations into my world that I had never had to deal with before. Anonymity. Things that we had not defined nor discussed were suddenly part of my life. Everyday.

Not everyone shared my views.  And it created quite a hell for me for some time.

I hated the internet.

Now, the internet brings so much positive, and only positive into my life; due to the choices I make and the limits I define. The boundaries and rules I set.

I’ve realised that I do have the power to  determine what I am willing to tolerate and how things are utilised in my life.

You have the right to decide what is right for you, and what is not.

If it is hurting you, breaking you down or keeping you up at night, it’s probably not right for you.

It is okay to say no. It is okay to stand up and shout for yourself. For what you need and what you want. You can fight for you. You must. Someone has to.
