Today I have a plea for you.
I know that some of you are hurting. I know that some of you are angry. Down, anxious, worried, sick or struggling.
But, please manage your words.
Even on your worst day, try really, really hard not to speak badly to others.
Words cut. Even if someone you love knows you are hurting, is trying to understand, help and support you, trying to love you through this time; when you say something awful to them, when you lash out, snappy, nasty and mean, it still hurts them.
The people who love you and try and help you are hurt by the things you say.
Even when you don’t mean it.
In a moment of clarity and calm, try and apologise. Tell them you know. That you get it.
They love you, and you are hurting them too.
Try really hard to be kind with your words, even if your mood doesn’t match. Stay quiet if you need to.
The people who love you may not tell you how much they are stung by the words. How busted they feel.
Let’s all try today, just today to protect the ones we love from the words that cut them.
